3 Like Switch
Proximity is when two people are in the same place and in the same space of time. People who spend time together, even when they do not talk at first, have a great chance of becoming close.
Frequency represents how many meetings two people have over a certain period.
Duration represents how long these meetings last. The amount of time people spend together is related to their influence on one another.
Intensity is related to the closeness and influence of one’s actions and words in relation to the physical and mental needs of the other. One kind of intensity that works very well is to show your curiosity about other people.
Story:
Airplane experiment about building rapport.
A study was conducted to experiment with ways to build rapport. They would have social scientists get on airplane flights and try different ways to build rapport. Surprisingly, the most effective way to build rapport is to ask the person many questions about them and get them to talk about themselves. When using this approach the person that was asked a lot of questions would leave the airplane talking about how awesome and interesting they thought of the social scientists.
This is a great story that shows that Proximity and Intensity from the Like Switch can build distinctive rapport in as short of a time as a single airplane flight.
Suggestions:
Maximize face-to-face time. It has an impact. Maximize the time by having face-to-face time first. Secondly, do it as often as possible. Be curious about other people during this valuable time to make it even more valuable.
